What are you most excited about teaching?
There is something supremely satisfying about transforming an idea into concrete reality. I am very excited to help students navigate that creative process.
What expectations will you have of your students?
My only expectation is that students come ready to play an active role in their learning. As much as we would like to sometimes, teachers can't transmit information directly into your brain. You've got to do the work if you want to learn the material. What we can do, though, is make sure that the effort you put in is as efficient and enjoyable as possible.
What's something that you're super passionate about?
I love the idea of open-source education. Specifically, I mean looking at problems in education through the philosophy and structures of open-source software development. Collaboration and universal access is key. What if textbooks and curricula were collaboratively created through the contributions of thousands of educators across the world? What if teachers could build off their profession's collective expertise, instead of constantly reinventing the wheel? What if every major topic had a free and accessible course of study, just like every major topic has a free and accessible summary through Wikipedia? Some very promising answers to these questions are emerging, and they will transform the way we think about eduction.
