What are you most excited about teaching?
A great product is critical to a company's acclaim and financial success. But I believe the most important ingredient to long-term fulfillment for any company is building a great place to work at. I want to show every student at Starter School that behind every successful software business is a proactive workplace. Culture isn't some vapor that magically appears one day. It's always there, and there are proven methods for nurturing it and ensuring it creates a positive experience for the entire staff.
What expectations will you have of your students?
Building a company where people love to work requires discipline, modesty, and a willingness to adapt as a founder. I expect every student I work with to understand the value and craft in the lowliest of responsibilities. Successful founders can perform any job at their company because they've done them all.
What have you been working on lately?
Kin has been my pursuit since mid-2012. It's the simple stuff that employers do or don't do well that has the biggest impact on an employees experience at a company. Kin helps small companies do an excellent job onboarding new hires, organizing employee data and documents, and managing time off.
